Fulton Ross Fund Awards Grant
Sarasota The selection committee of the Fulton Ross Fund for Visual Artists announces the awarding of the fund's 2004 grant to Sarasota artist Aaron Board. The $10,000 annual grant is awarded without strings to an area visual artist to enable him or her a period of time in which to pursue an artistic direction of the artist's own choosing.
Board is the fourth artist to be awarded a grant since the founding of the Fulton Ross Fund. More than 50 artists submitted applications to be considered for the 2004 grant. From this group, four were selected by the judging committee as finalists. In addition to Board, these included Patrick Fiore, Hollis Jeffcoat and Steven Katzman.
In a statement releases along with the name of the winner, the judges made note of the fact that, due to the outstanding quality of submissions, their work had been particularly difficult this year.
A native of Pontiac, Michigan, Board is a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Fine Arts. He continued his studies at the New York Academy of Art where he received his Master of Fine Arts degree.
His work has received a number of awards and recognition and has been exhibited at one man and group shows in New York City, throughout New York State and in Florida and New Mexico.
Board began his professional arts career in Southwest Florida as a mural painter. He subsequently returned to art school to complete formal training as a fine artist. In addition to oil paintings on canvas and Plexiglas, he has developed an unusual technique composing figure studies using platinum and pure gold on sand textured papers.
His paintings, portraits and drawings are included in permanent collections in New York, Los Angeles and New Jersey.
The Fulton Ross Fund for Visual Artists, Inc, was established by Sarasota artists Gale Fulton Ross. It has been granted IRS recognition as an independent non-for-profit tax-exempt fund with its own 501(c)3 designation. It was previously administered as a fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota. |
